Musetti uncertain if he will play Next Gen Finals
The Italian said he will make a decision in the next few days, after a long season
Italian Lorenzo Musetti said he will “decide in the next few days” if he will play in next week’s Next Gen Finals as he digests a long year which has included 31 events.
The 20-year-old was well beaten by Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters on Friday, the final ATP Tour event of a season which has seen him rise from No 59 to No 23, with his first two ATP titles along the way.
But fatigue from a long season could yet convince him to skip next week’s Next Gen Finals in favour of some rest.
“At the moment, the Next Gen Masters is in the schedule, I will decide in the next days,” he said. “Sometimes I played six weeks in a row this season, so I have to consider the general view, and the Davis Cup.
“On one side I want to play, on the other one, I need to rest a bit.”
Musetti: “I need to work much more”
The Paris Masters was Musetti’s fourth event in a row and his 31st of the year, when taking into account team competitions and Challenger Tour events.
He won titles in Naples on hard courts and on clay in Hamburg as he established himself towards the world’s top 20 but he was outplayed by Djokovic and admits there is still a lot he can improve.
“I need to play more matches against these type of players and I need to work much more to have a chance to beat them some day,” he said.
