Roger Federer’s Twitter Q&A: Nadal, commentating, exhibition matches and being a “Dad coach”
The Swiss said he is enjoying his retirement and has no plans to commentate at Wimbledon this year
Roger Federer popped into the Twittersphere on Tuesday to do a Q&A with fans, former coaches, journalists and anyone who wanted to ask him a question.
And the lengthy session yielded plenty of nuggets of information.
There was a bit of news (perhaps) as Federer revealed he still has no plans to commentate this year. The Swiss has been heavily linked with a role as a pundit on the BBC for Wimbledon this summer, something he said, at the Laver Cup last September, might be something that would interest him down the line.
But asked if he would be joining BBC during Wimbledon, he seemed to pour cold water on the idea, for now at least. (though don’t put it past him popping in for a visit).
Rafael Nadal has been a huge part of Federer’s life, the two men sharing numerous incredible battles down the years.
Asked what his favourite match with Nadal was, Federer showed his sense of humour. “RG 2008,” he said (of the final he lost 6-1, 6-3, 6-0). “Those four games were awesome”.
Like everyone, it seems Federer is disappointed at the news that Nadal will not be able to defend his Roland-Garros title.
There was a little insight into what he might do in the future, at least with the racquet, when asked if he had any plans to get back on court for exhibitions.
And asked whether he fancied being a coach, he was quick to shoot down that idea.
And there was time for more humour as his former coach, Ivan Ljubicic asked a question of his own.
Federer also said he plans to be at the Laver Cup in Vancouver in September and it seems he’s happy not having to go through the grind of the Tour these days.
