Rio Open: Cerundolo books spot in last four
Francisco Cerundolo edged out Dusan Lajovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday evening and will play the winner of the match between Brazilian wildcard Thiago Monteiro and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, in the next round
Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, moved into the last four of the Rio Open by edging out Serb Dusan Lajovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening.
Cerundolo, ranked No 22, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian wildcard Thiago Monteiro and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, next.
The Argentinian won against qualifier Francisco Comesana (6-1, 1-6, 6-2) and Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas (6-2, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Rio tournament, Lajovic, ranked No 58, beat Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-1) and No 6 seed Laslo Djere (6-2, 7-5).
