Rio Open: Baez sets up semi-final against Cerundolo

Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, reached the last four of the Rio Open by beating Brazilian wildcard Thiago Monteiro 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening.
Baez, ranked No 30, will face Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Argentinian won against French qualifier Corentin Moutet (6-4, 6-3) and Facundo Diaz Acosta (7-6 (1), 6-3).
Monteiro, ranked No 117, benefited from the abandonment of Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed (1-1) and won against qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves (7-5, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Rio tournament.
