Rio Open: Baez ends Diaz Acosta’s run to reach last eight
Sebastian Baez beat Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-6 (1), 6-3 on Thursday and will play the winner of the match between wildcard Thiago Monteiro and qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves in the next round
No 5 seed Sebastian Baez defeated Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-6 (1), 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Rio Open at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.
Diaz Acosta had won the title in Buenos Aires last week and was on a six-match winning strea. Baez, ranked No 30, will face wildcard Thiago Monteiro next.
The Argentine won against French qualifier Corentin Moutet (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round of the Rio tournament.
Earlier in the week, Acosta, ranked No 59, won against Swiss Stan Wawrinka (7-5, 6-4).
