Rio Open: Baez books spot in quarter-finals

Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 6 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Rio Open by beating Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas 7-5, 7-6 (6) at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night.
Baez, ranked No 35, will play Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry next.
The 22-year-old Argentinian won against Brazilian wildcard Thomaz Bellucci (6-3, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Brazilian Open, Varillas, ranked No 81, defeated French qualifier Hugo Gaston (7-5, 6-4).
