“Right now, until the ATP Finals, I’m going to try to play as many matches as I can” – Alcaraz
The Spaniard is set to make his Laver Cup debut in Berlin this weekend
Carlos Alcaraz has proved he can win on hardcourts, clay courts and grass. The one surface where he the young Spaniard’s results have yet to catch up to the rest is indoors.
In 2022, Alcaraz reached the semi-finals in Basel and the quarter-finals in Paris before withdrawing from the ATP Finals due to injury. In 2023, the Spaniard made the semis in Beijing, the fourth round in Shanghai and the second round in Paris before ending the season with a semi-final finish at the ATP Finals.
Given that background, Alcaraz is keen to play more matches indoors during the last stretch of the season in order to improve on the surface.
“I’m not used to play so many indoors, so for me it’s always great to have matches in my bag in the indoor courts just to get ready on it and try to play better,” the Spaniard said in Berlin where he is playing the Laver Cup this weekend.
“Right now until the ATP Finals end of the year, I’m going to try to play as much matches as I can. Right now is the indoor swing, so I try to get better every tournament, every match that I’m going to play. I’m right now, here in the Laver Cup, I’m going to try to be the best partner, best player for my team.”
Alcaraz will play the doubles match for Team Europe on Friday alongside Alexander Zverev against the American duo of Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton.
