“Who knows what could happen?” Confident Korda’s streak continues, into Queen’s semi-finals
Sebastian Korda defeated Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6 (1) on Friday evening. He’ll play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Bulgarian qualifier Grigor Dimitrov in the next round
American Sebastian Korda advanced to the last four of Queen’s by winning against No 5 seed Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6 (1) at Queen’s Club in London on Friday.
Korda, ranked No 32, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Bulgarian qualifier Grigor Dimitrov next in his seventh ATP Tour semi-final – but his first on grass.
Asked to talk about his comment after the last round that he could be in contention for Wimbledon, he brushed it off: “I don’t know what I was probably thinking. Just kind of hyped up on the match that I played.
“You know, it’s always a privilege being in the position that I’m in. I have a big game, and, you know, I love playing on grass. So who knows what could happen, but I think one of the biggest things is to kind of have confidence in yourself and just to believe in yourself. I think those are the two biggest things that I can do for myself. Who knows what’s going to happen.”
Ahead of his victory, the 22-year-old American beat Daniel Evans (6-4, 7-5) and No 4 seed Frances Tiafoe (7-6 (2), 6-3).
He is also now on a six-match winning streak against lefties since his loss to Rafael Nadal in Indian Wells last year.
