Queen’s: Qualifier Hijikata reaches last eight

Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata reached the quarter-finals of the cinch Championships by winning against Italian Matteo Arnaldi 7-6, 7-6 (7) at Queen’s Club in London on Wednesday afternoon.
Hijikata, ranked No 98, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 3 seed, and American Sebastian Korda next.
The Australian benefited from the abandonment of American Frances Tiafoe (7-5, 4-6, 1-0) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Queen’s tournament, Arnaldi, ranked No 35, edged out Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 8 seed (3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6)).
