Queen’s: Berrettini extends unbeaten run on grass with opening round win
Matteo Berrettini beat Dan Evans in straight sets to win his fifth match in a row and advance to the second round of the Queens Club event
Second seed Matteo Berrettini, of Italy, moved into the second round of the Cinch Championships ATP event by defeating Dan Evans in straight sets at Queen’s Club in London on Tuesday afternoon.
Berrettini, ranked No 10, needed one hour and 36 minutes for the 6-3, 6-3 win in which he hit an incredible 21 aces, and saved all seven break points against his serve.
The Italian, who won this title last year and reached the 2021 Wimbledon final, won the Stuttgart title on Sunday, which was his first tournament in three months, and has now won five matches in a row. He will face the winner of the match between American lucky loser Denis Kudla and Italian Lorenzo Sonego next.
