Qatar Open: Murray gets first win of the year, beats qualifier Muller

Andy Murray won against French qualifier Alexandre Muller 6-1, 7-6 (5) to advance to the second round of the Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Tuesday.
It was the former world No 1’s first win of the season, with his last victory on tour coming in October 2023 when he beat Yannick Hanfmann in Basel.
It is also the 20th consecutive year in which Murray has won a match on the ATP Tour.
Doha is a tournament where Murray has enjoyed a great deal of success in the past. He has reached the final five times, winning the title twice, and with this victory has tied Nikolay Davydenko for the second-most match wins in tournament history, with 25.
Murray, ranked No 50, will play Jakub Mensik next.
