Possible Sinner v Medvedev rematch in Monte-Carlo – all the draw details
There will be some tasty matches in store as the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters begins
Always an exciting spectacle, the 2024 Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is about to start (on April 8, with qualifying beginning two days earlier on April 6) – and the draw has been made.
Djokovic v Alcaraz semi-final in store?
Among the favourites, top seed Novak Djokovic will start with a first-round bye, like all the top eight seeds, and face Roman Safiullin or a qualifier in the second round. If he gets over that obstacle, Lorenzo Musetti could await in the last 16 – the man who beat him last year. Should he make the quarter-finals, a clash with defending champion Andrey Rublev awaits him, with a possible reunion with Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals. The last time they met on clay was at last year’s French Open.
Another Sinner v Medvedev rematch?
Jannik Sinner, the man in form in 2024 and No 2 seed, will open his tournament against Sebastian Korda or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round. He could then face Alexander Bublik in the round of 16, followed by Holger Rune or Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, Sinner could once again come up against Daniil Medvedev – that’s if the Russian can overcome the likes of Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov in his section of the draw.
Tough start for Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz will have to be wary of his second-round match against Felix Auger-Aliassime or a qualifier.
And the difficulties don’t stop there. Later in the tournament, he could face Ugo Humbert, Hubert Hurkacz, Casper Ruud and then Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals – not an easy run by any stretch of the imagination.
The best of the rest
Defending champion Andrey Rublev, seeded sixth, will start in the second round against Alexei Popyrin or a qualifier.
Grigor Dimitrov, enjoying a great streak, comes in as ninth seed and faces wildcard Valentin Vacherot in the first round. Another wildcard, Matteo Berrettini, takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening round.
Alex de Minaur faces three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, while 15th seed Karen Khachanov will play Cameron Norrie.
