Paris Masters: Sinner comes from a set down to beat McDonald and reach last 16
The Italian has now won 13 of his last 14 matches on the tour
Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 4 seed, came from a set down to beat American Mackenzie McDonald 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-1 at the Paris Masters in the wee hours of Thursday morning. This was the Italian’s third win over McDonald in as many matches.
Sinner, ranked No 4 in the world and winner of the Vienna Open on Sunday, is through to the last 16 where he will face Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 13 seed. The Italian has won all his five previous matches against the Australian
This was Sinner’s first ever win at this tournament and it came at 2:34 AM Paris time on Thursday morning.
With titles in Beijing and Vienna interspersed with an early loss in Shanghai, Sinner has now won 13 of his last 14 matches on the tour.
The Italian had received a first round bye in the tournament while McDonald, ranked No 42 in the world, won against qualifier J.J. Wolf (1-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous round.
