Paris Masters: Rune breezes past Altmaier to set up Djokovic rematch in quarter-finals
Holger Rune beat Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-3. He’ll face Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed, in the next round in a rematch of last year’s epic final
Holger Rune comfortably beat Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters at the Accor Arena.
The defending champion in Bercy will take on the world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final in a mouth-watering rematch of last year’s final.
Djokovic overcame illness and poor form to get through a tough test against Tallon Griekspoor earlier in the evening and was awaiting the winner of this match.
Rune has struggled for form since his run to the last eight at Wimbledon this summer, but looks to be getting back to his best tennis with new coaching appointment Boris Becker in his box.
The 20-year-old Dane beat Austrian qualifier Dominic Thiem (6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Paris-Bercy tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Altmaier, ranked No 54, defeated Frenchman Arthur Fils (6-2, 6-4) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed (W/O).
