Paris Masters: In-form Khachanov edges out Popyrin to move into quarter-finals
Karen Khachanov defeated Alexei Popyrin 7-6 (5), 6-4 and will face the winner of the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Arthur Rinderknech in the next round
Russian Karen Khachanov moved into the quarter-finals of Paris Masters by defeating Australian Alexei Popyrin 7-6 (5), 6-4 at the Accor Arena.
Khachanov, ranked No 21, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 8 seed, and French wildcard Arthur Rinderknech next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Russian edged out Australian lucky loser Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6)) and French wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-7 (12), 6-1, 6-4).
Popyrin, ranked No 24, won against Italian Matteo Berrettini (7-5, 7-6 (2)) and edged out Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 4 seed (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4)) in the previous rounds of the Paris-Bercy tournament.
