Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry edged out Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance to the second round of Paris Masters at the Accor Arena on Tuesday.
Etcheverry, ranked No 31, will play top seed Novak Djokovic next.
