Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov raced into the quarter-finals of the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday with a confident 6-2, 6-2 win over Kazakh Alexander Bublik at the Accor Arena on Thursday.
Dimitrov, ranked No 17, followed up his win over third seed Daniil Medvedev in the previous round with a commanding performance, clinching victory in just 67 minutes. He will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 11 seed, next.
“The first three or four games, I didn’t do anything special, I was just trying to stay in the match, he’s such a great server,” Dimitrov said. “But I was able to read a lot of the game. You never know what day you’re going to catch him, he’s super-crafty.”
The Bulgarian defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3) and edged out Russian Medvedev, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2)) in the previous rounds of the Paris-Bercy tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Bublik, ranked No 33, beat American Frances Tiafoe, the No 14 seed (6-3, 6-4) and Chilean Nicolas Jarry (7-6 (3), 7-6 (3)).
