“One of the best things I did this year was the message I left in Dubai” – Rublev reflects on 2022 and looks ahead to 2023
Rublev says his main goal is to improve in 2023 and to try and get mentally tougher
Andrey Rublev won four ATP singles titles in 2022, reached the semi-finals of the ATP Finals and Indian Wells Masters and the quarter-finals of two Grand Slams – the French Open and the US Open. But the Russian believes his best effort was writing a message of peace on a camera lens in Dubai earlier in the season.
“That’s why last year especially with the situation happening in the world you feel that maybe you don’t deserve and when you feel support from people, especially in Turin, I have never felt something like that before. It was a really special moment. One of the best things I did this year was the message I left in Dubai. It was the most meaning that I could do during the year” Rublev said in an interview to Eurosport.
“The goal is simple: to improve” – Rublev
The 25-year-old world No 8 is in Saudi Arabi this week for the Diriyah Tennis Cup but has his goal set for the enxt season – to improve.
“The goal is simple: to improve.” Rublev said. “I still have a lot of room to improve game-wise, mentally, to analyse the year, analyse all the things I did wrong, all the matches that I behaved wrong, the matches where I was able to have a strong mentality, and to focus in that direction and try to do less wrong things during the season.”
