Australian Christopher O’Connell advanced to the last 16 of the Miami Masters by defeating American wildcard Martin Damm 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night.
O’Connell, ranked No 66, will face Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, next.
The Australian won against qualifier Vit Kopriva (6-2, 6-4) and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 21 seed (7-5, 7-6 (5)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Damm, ranked No 204, beat Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (7-6 (2), 7-6 (3)) and No 13 seed Tommy Paul (4-6, 2-1 ret.).
