Frenchman Luca van Assche won against Swede wildcard Dragos Nicolae Madaras 7-6 (2), 6-4 to reach the second round of the Nordea Open at the Båstads tennisstadion in Bastad on Monday afternoon.
Van Assche, ranked No 77, will play No 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo next.
