Nordea Open: Tirante beats Carballes Baena to make first ATP semi-final

Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante advanced to the semi-finals of the Nordea Open by edging out Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at the Båstads tennisstadion.

Tirante, ranked No 121, will play the winner of the match between Kazakh qualifier Timofey Skatov and Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 7 seed, next.

The Argentinian edged out Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed (7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Swedish Open, Carballes Baena, ranked No 54, won against Russian Roman Safiullin, the No 6 seed (5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-3) and Kazakh qualifier Denis Yevseyev (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).
