Nordea Open: Cerundolo books spot in last four

Francisco Cerundolo won against Aslan Karatsev 7-5, 6-1 on Friday and will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 3 seed, and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 5 seed, in the next round

Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo advanced to the last 4 of the Nordea Open by defeating Russian Aslan Karatsev 7-5, 6-1 at the Båstads tennisstadion in Bastad on Friday.

Cerundolo, ranked No 39, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 3 seed, and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 5 seed, next.

The Argentinian won against Portuguese qualifier Pedro Sousa (6-4, 6-3) and edged out Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Bastad, Karatsev, ranked No 40, edged out Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-0, 2-6, 6-4) and won against Frenchman Hugo Gaston (6-2, 6-4).
