Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 7 seed, defeated Italian lucky loser Andrea Pellegrino 6-2, 7-6 (3) to reach the second round of the Nordea Open at the Båstads tennisstadion.

Borges, ranked No 51, will play Portuguese Henrique Rocha next.
