Sebastian Baez of Argentina is the third man into the last four at the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals after he beat France’s Hugo Gaston 4-3, 4-2, 4-2.
And he did it in impressive style – bearing in mind this was only his third-ever tour-level match on an indoor hard court, with the other two of course also coming this week.
“I am happy to have won this match, but we now need to think ahead to the next match,” he said in his on-court interview afterwards. “I think the key was to stay aggressive and concentrate all the time because Gaston is a dangerous player, so I am happy I did that.”
The two had not met at tour level before, but had played three times as juniors, with Gaston edging the head-to-head 2-1.
And both men went into this match knowing a win was required to give them any chance of progressing from Group B and into the semi-finals.
