Top seed Carlos Alcaraz continued his winning run at the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals with a 4-0, 4-1, 2-4, 4-3 triumph over Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina.
He already knew he had reached the final four, but goes into the semi-finals with a perfect 3-0 round-robin stage record.
“I am very happy to get into the semi-finals,” he said afterwards. “This tournament is so important. Being able to play a semi-final here, it’s amazing. Playing these kinds of matches, at this level, I’m really glad, the level that I’m playing.”
Even though he lost his first set of the week so far, the 18-year-old came through to wrap up victory as he heads into Friday’s semi-final – and confirmed his 30th win of the year so far, making him the youngest man to reach that milestone since Rafael Nadal managed it at the same age.
He will be slightly disappointed with the 28 unforced errors he clocked up over the course of one hour and 23 minutes – but he managed to take three of his five break point chances.
The Argentinian, meanwhile, exits the tournament without a win, but plenty of valuable experience.
