Top seed Carlos Alcaraz continued his sensational year with a 4-3, 4-1, 4-3 win over Brandon Nakashima to seal his spot in the semi-finals at the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals.
Yesterday’s Group A winners concluded the day session in Milan with a tightly-contested encounter, but it was the Spaniard – already ranked as world No 32 – who came out on top to ensure his spot in the last four.
In a powerful display lasting one hour and 26 minutes, the Spaniard hit 25 winners and only 16 unforced errors, serving ten aces. Ominously for the rest of the field, he grabbed both of his break point chances as well.
“I am so happy,” said Alcaraz on the court afterwards. “I hope to play the semi-final at this level. The serve is very important on hard court and indoor courts. I am trying to improve the serve for my game.”
