It will be a battle between the top two seeds in the championship match of the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals on Saturday.
After No 2 Sebastian Korda outlasted Brandon Nakashima in an all-American clash to begin the semi-finals on Friday, No 1 Carlos Alcaraz beat Sebastian Baez 4-2, 4-1, 4-2 in the nightcap. Alcaraz needed only one hour and two minutes to improve his round-robin record in Milan to 3-0. Korda also compiled an undefeated record in his group.
Alcaraz saved all three of the break points he faced while converting four of his nine chances against the Baez serve.
“It [was] a really good match from my side,” the 18-year-old Spaniard assessed. “I had to play really, really aggressive; he was playing at a good level this week. I always think in the tough moments I need to play aggressive; play my game; no nerves.”
Alcaraz and Korda will be facing each other for the first time on Saturday.
“I know it’s going to be really, really tough,” the world No 32 commented. “Sebastian is playing really good tennis. It would be amazing to get the title but I have a really good opponent in front of me.”
