At last year’s Next Gen ATP Finals, American Alex Michelsen went 0-3 in the round-robin stage. Determined to break that streak, Michelsen won his opening match at the 2024 edition in Jeddah with a four-set win over countryman Nishesh Basavareddy.

Basavareddy was the one who struck first to win the first set 4-2 before Michelsen bounced back to win the next two sets 4-3 in tiebreakers. In the fourth set, Michelsen went down an early break but took the last three games in a row to complete the 2-4, 4-3, 4-3, 4-2 victory in the Red Group-

With Luca Van Assche and Michelsen winning their matches today, both players have one win apiece and a 3-1 sets record in the Red Group. However, the Frenchman stands on top of the group due to better game winning percentage.
