Nadal steps up practice at his Academy ahead of US summer swing
Nadal is entered to play both the hardcourt Masters Series events – Montreal and Cincinnati – before the US Open, which begins on August 29 in New York City
Rafael Nadal has been training for the upcoming U.S. summer swing on hardcourts at his Academy in Spain as he prepares to launch his bid for a fifth US Open and record-extending 23rd Grand Slam singles title.
The Spaniard was forced to pull out of the Wimbledon quarter-final against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal tear after winning the Australian Open and French Open Majors earlier this year and has not played since then.
Nadal has been practicing on hard courts at his academy in Mallorca before he travels to the United States.
The 36-year-old has also been practicing with his younger cousin, Joan Nadal , the son of his uncle and former coach Toni Nadal, in recent days.
Nadal to play in Montreal and Cincinnati prior to US Open
Nadal is entered to play both the hardcourt Masters Series events – Montreal and Cincinnati – next month.
The National Bank Open (the Canadian Open), a tournament that the Spaniard has won on five occasions, is scheduled to take place from August 7 to 17 in Montreal. The Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, which he has won once in his career, will be held from August 14 to 21.
The US Open, the final Major of the season, begins on August 29 in New York City.
