Murray, Rune bridge 16-year age gap with surprise doubles partnership in Brisbane
The pair have never met in an official singles match on the ATP Tour but will team up for doubles in Brisbane
The start of the new tennis season will see an unlikely doubles partnership with three-time Grand Slam winner and former world No 1 Andy Murray teaming up with Denmark’s Holger Rune at the ATP Brisbane International.
Murray, aged 36, and Rune, aged 20, are 16 years apart and will be partnering for the first time on the tour. Both players are also entered in the singles draw in Brisbane.
Murray played only one doubles event in 2023 (Washington) while Rune played two. Both players are six places apart in the doubles rankings – with Murray coming in at No 573 and Rune at No 579. The pair have yet to face off in an official singles match on the ATP Tour.
The Brisbane doubles draw will also see some other interesting pairings include Sebastian Korda and Grigor Dimitrov, and Ben Shelton with Ugo Humbert.
