Denmark’s Holger Rune, the No 13 seed, beat Spanish lucky loser Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to move into the second round of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Tuesday.
Bautista Agut came into the main draw after Canada’s Milos Raonic pulled out prior to the match due to a shoulder injury and had also played his final round qualifying match earlier in the day.
Rune, ranked No 17, will play another Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta, next for a spot in the third round. The Dane was forced to pull out of last week’s Olympics tennis event due to a wrist injury.
