No 10 seed Taylor Fritz edged out Frances Tiafoe 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to move into the last 16 of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Wednesday night.
Fritz, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, and Daniel Evans next.
Taylor Fritz beat wildcard Andy Murray (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round of the Coupe Rogers.
In the previous round of the Coupe Rogers, Tiafoe, ranked No 24, won against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-3).
