Montreal Masters: Evans advances to last eight, defeating Fritz

Daniel Evans reached the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters by edging out American Taylor Fritz, the No 10 seed, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-5 at Stade IGA on Thursday night.

Evans, ranked No 39, will play the winner of the match between Croat Marin Čilić, the No 13 seed, and American Tommy Paul next.

In the previous rounds of the Coupe Rogers, Daniel Evans defeated Serb Filip Krajinovic (6-2, 1-6, 6-0) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-4).

Fritz, ranked No 13, won against wildcard Andy Murray (6-1, 6-3) and edged out Frances Tiafoe (5-7, 6-1, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
