Draper through to maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final as Monfils retires due to injury
Jack Draper benefited from the abandonment of Gael Monfils (6-2, 0-2) on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 7 seed, and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the next round
Qualifier Jack Draper advanced to the last eight of the Montreal Masters when Frenchman Gael Monfils, the No 17 seed, retired on Thursday night at Stade IGA.
Draper, ranked No 82, led 6-2, 0-2 when Monfils, ranked No 20, pulled out at Stade IGA on Thursday night.
Jack Draper will face the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 7 seed, and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta next.
Draper defeated French qualifier Hugo Gaston (6-2, 6-3) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 3 seed (7-5, 7-6 (4)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, the 35-year-old Frenchman won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2) and American Maxime Cressy (7-6 (10), 7-6 (6)).
