Montreal Masters: Davidovich Fokina overcomes Safiullin in round one

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina moved into the second round of the Montreal Masters by beating Russian Roman Safiullin (6-2, 7-5) on Wednesday afternoon. Davidovich Fokina produced seven break point opportunities, and managed to convert on three, only relinquishing one game on his own serve.

The Spaniard, ranked No 42 in the world, will face No 3 seed Daniil Medvedev, the 2021 Canadian Open champion, next.
