Portuguese Nuno Borges edged out Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 12 seed, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) to advance to the last 16 of the Montreal Masters
Borges, who recently won his first ATP title in Bastad vs Rafael Nadal, will play Japanese Kei Nishikori next. Nishikori will be reeling off an upset win over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Portuguese edged out Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (5-7, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.
In the previous round, Humbert, ranked No 15, had, himself, looked impressive, and won against Arthur Fils (6-2, 6-2).
