Montpellier Open: Gasquet beats Mannarino, equals Federer longevity record
Richard Gasquet won against Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday evening. He’ll face No 5 seed Tallon Griekspoor in the next round

Richard Gasquet reached the second round of the Montpellier Open by defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2 at the Sud de France Arena.
gasquet equals an impressive federer record
The former world No 7 is one of the last true veterans on the tour, of a past generation. However, the Frenchman equaled one of the most impressive longevity records – set by none other than Roger Federer.
By collecting his first win of 2025, Gasquet has now won at least one ATP singles match for 24 consecutive seasons.
All the way back in 2002, the Frenchman received a wildcard for the Monte Carlo Masters, and beat world No 54 Franco Squillari at just 15-years-old. Over 1000 matches later, and Gasquet continues to defy the odds – even in the last year of his professional career.
Towards the end of 2024, the former No 7 announced that he will retire at Roland Garros later this season – stating:
“It’s the best tournament to do it. It’s beautiful, we’re lucky being French to be able to retire in this kind of incredible place. An end is always complicated, all the former great players have often told me, it’s not easy to announce it. You never know when, how, where… Here, in any case, it goes without saying.”
Gasquet, ranked No 132, will play No 5 seed Tallon Griekspoor next.
