Montpellier Open: Fils through to semi-finals, beats compatriot Halys

Wild card Arthur Fils advanced to the semi-finals of the Montpellier Open by beating Quentin Halys 7-6 (3), 6-3 at the Sud de France Arena on Friday.
Fils, ranked No 163, will face the winner of the match between Lorenzo Sonego and second seed Jannik Sinner next.
Fils is now the youngest Frenchman to reach a semi-final on tour since Richard Gasquet at Metz in 2004.
Halys was seeking his first ATP tour semi-final, and to extend his current personal best of five tour-level wins so far this year.
Fils won against Richard Gasquet (7-5, 7-5) and Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the Montpellier tournament, Halys, ranked No 70, edged out qualifier Clement Chidekh (7-5, 2-6, 7-5) and won against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-3).
