Montpellier Open: Cressy upsets top seed Rune to set up Sinner final
The American will play Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, for the title
American Maxime Cressy moved into the final of the Montpellier Open by edging out Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) at the Sud de France Arena on Saturday evening.
Cressy, ranked No 51, will play Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, next. The Italian had defeated French wildcard Arthur Fils 7-5, 6-2 in the first semi-final of the day.
The American defeated Swiss qualifier Antoine Bellier (6-3, 6-2), Finn Emil Ruusuvuori, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Croat Borna Coric, the No 3 seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Montpellier tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Rune, ranked No 9, won against Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (7-6 (5), 6-2) and Frenchman Gregoire Barrere (7-6 (2), 7-6 (5)).
