Chinese Zhizhen Zhang beat American Marcos Giron 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club.

Zhang, ranked No 49, will play Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 14 seed, next.
