Monte-Carlo Masters: Ruud eases past Tabilo to make last 16
Casper Ruud beat Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday and will face Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 10 seed, in the next round
Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, won against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club.
It was an authoritative performance from the world No 10, who will hold high hopes for a fruitful clay-court stretch on arguably his best surface.
Despite a surprise loss to Pedro Martinez in Estoril last week, the Norwegian looked sharp as he got his Monte-Carlo campaign off to a successful, drama-free start.
Ruud, ranked No 10, will play Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 10 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament, Tabilo, ranked No 45, beat Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell (6-3, 6-4).
