Khachanov sets Rublev round of 16 clash at Monte-Carlo

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 9 seed, won against Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka 7-6 (2), 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Khachanov, ranked No 12, will play Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, next. The pair have met three times at the ATP level, with Khachanov winning twice, including their last meeting in Halle in 2021.

Khachanov saved all three break points he faced to improve to 2-1 against Ivashka, and 15-6 in 2023.

Ahead of his victory, the Russian beat Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-2, 6-2).

Ivashka, ranked No 74, defeated Daniel Evans (2-6, 6-2, 6-3) in the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament.
