Monfils, Wawrinka, Berrettini receive wildcards for Monte-Carlo Masters
Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot also received a wildcard into the singles main draw
French veteran Gael Monfils, three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka and former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini were among the players who received wildcards for the singles main draw at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Monfils, a former world No 6 and now ranked 45th, will be playing in Monte-Carlo for the first time since 2016, when he reached the final.
Wawrinka, who turned 39 last week, also received a wildcard. The Swiss, now ranked No 82, is a former champion in Monte-Carlo won the title in Monaco in 2014.
Berrettini, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2021 but has struggled for the past couple of seasons with injury, is now ranked 135th in the world. The Italian returned to the tour in March for the first time since last year’s US Open and is through to the quarter-finals in Marrakech this week.
Valentin Vacherot, from Monaco, also received a wildcard. The 25-year-old has already won three titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in 2024.
Qualifying wildcards were handed out to Lucas Catarina, member of the Moncao Davis Cup team, and former top 10 players Diego Schwartzman and Lucas Pouille.
