Casper Ruud is into his 16th tour-level final, beating Quentin Halys 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2)in the last four in Estoril.
Of the 16, 12 have been on clay courts, including each of his last three titles – but this is his first final at all since the Nitto ATP Finals last year, when he lost to Novak Djokovic.
This win also means he is back in the top four of the world rankings.
Ruud will play sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic for the title on Sunday.
It would have been Halys’s biggest career win, but instead he now goes 0-7 against opponents ranked in the top 10.
