Miami Masters: Tsitsipas beats qualifier Garin, books spot in last 16

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the second seed, edged out Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Miami Masters at the Hard Rock Stadium on Monday.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 3, will face Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 14 seed, next.

This was Tsitsipas’s first match of the fortnight – in the previous rounds of the Miami Open, the Greek benefited from a bye and then the forfeit of Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

Miami and Indian Wells are the two ATP Masters 1000 events where he is yet to reach a semi-final.

Garin, ranked No 82, edged out American Marcos Giron (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) and won against Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 27 seed (7-6 (2), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
