Sonego upsets Tiafoe to reach last 16 at Miami Masters

Italian Lorenzo Sonego moved into the last 16 of the Miami Masters by winning against American Frances Tiafoe, the No 12 seed, 6-3, 6-4 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Monday night.

Sonego, ranked No 59, will face Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 25 seed, next.

The Italian beat Austrian wild card Dominic Thiem (7-6 (7), 6-2) and No 23 seed Daniel Evans (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Miami Open.

In the previous round of the Miami Open, Tiafoe, ranked No 14, edged out Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki (6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 6-4).
