Miami Masters: Machac beats Arnaldi to reach first Masters 1000 quarter-final

Tomas Machac won against Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday and will face the winner of the match between Australian Christopher O’Connell and Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, in the next round

Czech Tomas Machac continued his impressive run at the Miami Open as he beat Italian Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last eight at the Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday.

Machac, ranked No 60, will face the winner of the match between Australian Christopher O’Connell and Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, next. He’s guaranteed to break into the world’s top 50 for the first time next week.

Machac defeated American wildcard Darwin Blanch (6-4, 6-2), Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-4) and Andy Murray (5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds of the Miami Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Arnaldi, ranked No 38, won against Frenchman Arthur Fils (6-3, 6-4), Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 17 seed (6-4, 6-1) and Canadian Denis Shapovalov (6-3, 7-6 (7)).
