American Sebastian Korda, the No 28 seed, edged out Spanish qualifier Roberto Bautista Agut 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the third round of the Miami Masters at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night.
Korda, ranked No 29, will face Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, next.
