Miami Masters: Jarry wins fiery clash against Seyboth Wild
Nicolas Jarry defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-7 (1), 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday night. He’ll face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, in the next round
Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 22 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Miami Masters by winning against Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-7 (1), 7-5, 6-3 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night.
Played in front of a raucous crowd, you could have been mistaken for thinking it was a football match, so boisterous were the Chilean and Brazilian fans. From chants, to drama over towels, falls, twisted wrists, icy handshakes and a comeback from one set down, this clash had it all.
Bottom line, Jarry wins another crazy three-setter and advances to face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 7 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Miami Open, the Chilean edged out Jack Draper (7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (2)).
Seyboth Wild, ranked No 76, beat Portuguese Nuno Borges (6-4, 7-5) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Miami Open.
