Cerundolo makes return trip to quarter-finals at Miami Masters 1000
Francisco Cerundolo’s Miami wizardry continued on Tuesday with a fourth-round win over Lorenzo Sonego. Cerundolo will battle Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals.
Francisco Cerundolo is becoming somewhat of a Miami Open specialist.
Cerundolo has produced plenty of other strong results throughout his career, but nowhere is he anywhere close to as good as he is in Miami. Following last year’s improbable semi-final run at this Masters 1000 tournament, the Argentine is back in the quarters following a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday night.
Next up for Cerundolo on Thursday is Karen Khachanov, who ousted Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round.
Cerundolo previously defeated American lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-4, 6-4) and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed (6-2, 7-5).
Sonego can still be content with his fortnight, during which he defeated Dominic Thiem (7-6 (7), 6-2), No 23 seed Daniel Evans (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-4).
